CS alumnus Prof. Kar-Yan Tam has been appointed Vice-President for Administration and Business by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST.) Tam earned his bachelor's degree in computer science and mathematics from Illinois in 1984. (Mirage News)

Team Ippatsu placed second and won silver at the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) North American Championship on May 27, 2024, in Orlando, Florida. The Illinois computer science student team of Aditya Jain, Yuuki Sawanoi, and Zhikun Wang coached by Mattox Beckman, qualified for the 48th World Finals held in Astana, Kazakhstan in September.
