The Department of Computer Science is seeking a Visiting Research Programmer for its Parallel Programming Research Lab. This programmer will take part in the development, testing, and maintenance of parallel programming technologies and their usage in scientific applications running on state-of-the art parallel machines, often composed of many thousands of processors.

The person in this position will take responsibility for developing software, interact with students, staff partners and external collaborators to develop components for this infrastructure, improve code quality for existing components, help users, and add new functionalities to the development, testing and execution environments.

This position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or a related field and experience in technical and scientific programming. Experience with one or more of the following is desirable: C/C++ programming languages, parallel computing, distributed computing, numerical methods, advanced computer architectures or comparable development experience. The successful applicant shall have strong organizational and collaborative skills in a team-oriented work environment. Outstanding attention to detail is required, along with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies.

This position will be available as soon as possible after the closing date, and is a 12-month, temporary, full-time academic professional appointment with standard University benefits with the possibility of becoming permanent at a future date. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. For full consideration, applications should be received by April 11, 2008.
