Is MPI_PROC_NULL valid for MPI_GROUP_TRANSLATE_RANKS?  I recently had a use for Translate_ranks, using ranks that came from MPI_Cart_shift.  These included MPI_PROC_NULL for the edges.  The text isn't clear; MPI_PROC_NULL is discussed only in the context of sources and destinations.  Comments?
