Logistics:

If you are interested in the extra credit hour, you will need to change the hours you have registered for the class appropriately in Banner.

Research Projects:

The project will involve reading a number (at least 10) papers or getting current information from other sources (i.e. IETF internet drafts or RFCs). This is your opportunity to explore leading edge research problems in computer networking. Some suggested topic areas are:

Multicast routing techniques
Congestion management techniques
The effects of mobility on TCP
The effects of mobility on routing
Ad hoc routing protocols
User-level communication
IP over optical networks
Fault tolerance/recovery algorithms for optical networks

Deliverables:

  1. A project specification.
    1. A brief outline of the topic and the direction of the research (about one page).
    2. A list of at least 5 of the research papers you plan on using with full publication references (no URLs).
  2. A project report 6-10 single-spaced pages (full page, 11 point font)
    1. Description of the problem in your own words. (Introduction)
    2. New ideas in the papers
      1. how effective the ideas are/ the flaws you see in them
      2. whether the authors have defended their position. why or why not.
      3. problems you see with the experiments etc.
    3. Alternative solution approaches (your own or reported in other papers) comparison with the solution approach in the paper.
