  • 8/31/09 - There have been a few events that will necessitate a number of staffing variations during the month of September. First, due to a very serious illness in his immediate family, I will be handling Chris Osborn's duties this week. In particular, I will hold office hours Tuesday 1 September at 3:30pm-4:30pm and Wednesday 2 September at 1:00pm-2:00pm in my office SC 2112, in addition to my regularly scheduled office hours on Monday at 1:00pm-2:00pm, Tuesday at 12:30p-1:45pmm and Thursday at 3:30pm-4:15pm. Second, I have been summoned for jury duty the week of 14 September. The current plan is that William Mansky will cover the two lectures, Tuesday 15 September and Thursday 17 September, but how things work out for Chris may affect this. I apologize for the excessive turbulence, but these were not foreseen events. - ELG
  • 8/31/09 - On MP1, you should only use print_string, as was done in class. We have hijacked print_string to facilitate machine grading, but have not do so for the other printing commands provided by OCaml. In particular, if you use print_newline, the grader program will not give you credit for the problem - ELG
  • 8/28/09 - *** Please re-submit your MP1 solutions. *** Unfortunately, everything submitted up to this point has been lost -- we apologize for all the errors on MP1; we are having an unusual number of technical difficulties on this first assignment. Things should be much smoother in the future. If you are reading this after the deadline and did not re-submit, please let us know and we will help you out. - CJO
  • 8/26/09 - Several students have contacted me indicating that they were trying to take CS426 (Compiler Construction) at the same time as taking this class. If you are in this position, whether you have spoken to me or not, please send me an email informing me. Although this is not supposed to be allowed, if there are enough of you, I will discuss the matter with Prof. Adve to see if it is possible to synchronize our topics. Neither one of us is willing to compromise our course to do this, but each course does have some flexibility in the order of topics. - ELG
  • 8/26/09 - mp1grader.tar.gz has been updated to v1.3, which fixes an error that caused make to complain about 'do_each' or 'do_pair.' Please download the latest version; sorry for the inconvenience. - CJO
  • 8/25/09 - Welcome to the fall session of CS421. This page will be the main bulletin board for the course, and hence is always under construction. Please check it frequently - ELG
