Advanced Computer Security

This course enables students to understand and contribute to current research trends in computer and network security.  Topics include secure web services, tamper-resistant software architectures, unwanted traffic on the Internet, monitoring and surveillance, and critical infrastructure protection..  Students will work in teams with close coordination with the course instructor to develop one of these topics in depth by carrying out background research and an exploratory project.  Assessment will be based on the novelty and depth of team projects and general understanding of the focus topics for the course as determined by a final exam.  The pre-requisite is a 400-level course in security at UIUC or permission of the instructor.
