CS598CZ Projects
Projects should be done nominally in groups of 2-3, but I will consider larger group sizes for especially ambitious projects. With final project, group will submit a document indicating the contributions of each team member.
Deadlines: (subject to change)
- Oct 7. Proposal Due
- Nov 7. In-class progress reports (5 minute summary)
- Dec 5. Paper Draft Due
- Dec 7. Referee Forms Due
- Dec 13. Poster Session
- Dec 13. Final Paper Due
You will prepare a brief (3-4 pages) proposal of your project. This
will be an expanded description of your project. It must be long
enough to convince me that you have a reasonable and achievable
project (i.e, not trivial and not too large). You may have to revise
your description before it will be acceptable. The project
description should describe the problem that you are addressing, how
you will go about working on this project (the steps you will take),
what results you expect and what you expect to produce, what resources
you will need, and a brief schedule for your project.
The project report format is very much like a conference paper
submission, in scope and organization. The report should be no longer
than 20 pages (somewhere in the range of 6,000-10,000 words). Before
submitting to me the final draft, you will distribute a draft of your
paper to other members in the class for referee'ing. Each class
member will referee one paper (using a form I provide). Comments from
reviews should be addressed in the final version; the reviews will be
submitted along with the final version.
Here is the referee form and a filled out example.
Outside of class meetings:
Your group must meet with me outside of class at least once before
turning in proposal. In addition, between the proposal due date and
the last day of class, each group will meet with me about every two
weeks for 15-30 minutes to discuss progress and brainstorm.
Additional meetings are welcome.
