All students are expected to take exams during the scheduled time slots. With the permission of the instructor, you may be allowed to take an exam at an alternate time. However, you must request this rescheduling at least 2 weeks prior to the exam date. Exceptions will naturally be made for sudden problems such as serious illnesses/injury. Since the exam schedule is being published at the beginning of the semester, scheduling conflicts (e.g., job interviews, GREs, etc.) are not legitimate reasons to miss an exam.
All exams will be comprehensive. In principle, everything discussed in class, appearing in lecture notes, in the required reading, or assigned in homework/projects is a potential source of exam questions.
The use of calculators, PDAs, laptops, books, notes, etc. is neither required nor allowed for any of our exams. All that you need to bring to an exam is is the writing implement of your choice and an eraser (optional).
The midterm is scheduled for Thursday, October 13 during the regular class period.
Any and all requests for corrections in the grading of your exam must be submitted by Friday, October 28. We will not entertain any regrade requests following that, with the exception of arithmetic or data entry errors in tallying your grade.
As indicated in the Fall 2005 Exam Schedule, our final exam will be at 1:30 pm on Thursday, December 15. The exam will be in our regular class room: 1404 Siebel Center.
The final will be comprehensive, with roughly 1/3 of the material devoted to material covered prior to the midterm.
Students are not required to take more than 2 final exams in the same 24 hour period. If your scheduled finals exceed this limit, you are entitled to take a conflict exam. You should request to schedule a conflict exam in the largest of the conflicting classes.
To request a conflict exam for CS 418, you must contact us before the end of the day on Thursday, December 1nd. We will not grant conflict requests after that date.
To help in studying here is an example final example from Spring 2005.
