Announcements
12/06/05 There's a study guide. No one vouches for its completeness though.
12/06/05 We've determined that you will not be covering permutations until Thursday - when the HW is due. Thus we are moving the due date to Friday, 12/9 at 4pm. We will not be accepting late submissions, as we expect the graders to be picking them up shortly afterwards.
Someone also asked about electronic submission. If you wish to submit your HW electronically, email Peter Young a copy in PDF format. We will not be accepting other formats. I'd appreciate it if you could get it to me before office hours, since I should probably print them out, but get it in by 4pm.
Finally, if you can not make it to my office hours on Friday, you can slip it under the door of the TA office any time before 4pm on Friday.
12/01/05 Class has been cancelled for Thursday, December 1st. Class for Thursday, December 8th.
11/30/05 Homework Assignment 6 has been released. It is due Thursday, December 8. Point assignments & stapling instructions will be given a little later on...
11/28/05 Midterm 2 grades are up. Average: 55.9, Median: 57.5, SD: 16.59, Maximum: 97, Minimum: 12.5.
Also, the final will be Tuesday, December 13th, 7pm in 100 MS&E.
11/18/05 HW5 q7 has been changed! Turns out the original question probably requires extra topics you won't have covered in class or the course packets, so we've replaced it with a simpler problem that uses the same operator. Sorry about that.
Midterm II solutions are here.
11/09/05 Midterm II will be held in 1404 and 1105 SC at 7pm on Wednesday (11/16). The review session will be held on Saturday (11/12), at 1pm in 1404 SC.
11/08/05 Homework Assignment 5 has been released. It is due Tuesday, Nov. 29. Solutions to HW 4 are also up.
10/26/05 HW3, Q3b solution fixed. Should be \Theta(n^2)
10/26/05 Homework Assignment 4 has been released. It is due Tuesday, Nov. 8, so get started! Solutions to HW3 are also up.
10/18/05 Midterm II will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16th at 7pm. Conflict requests: Email Linus with a reason why you cannot take the exam then.
10/14/05 Change to HW1 solution for 7a. We're going to have to regrade that one, so if you think your solution matches what's currently up, drop by office hours for a regrade.
10/14/05 HW3 due on 10/25 now.
Midterm 1 grades should be up. The mean was 39.8, the median was 38.0, and the SD was 16.01. Solutions are here.
10/13/05 Correction to HW3 1b - initial conditions should be useful now.
10/8/05 Homework Assignment 3 has been released.
10/8/05 For those of you who saw the practice midterm handed out at the review session, and want to recheck the solutions, the problems were taken from 1b, 1d, and 3 of Fall 2003, 1c, 1e, 2, and 5 of Spring 2005, and 1 and 3 of the long problems in the Spring 2002 midterm.
For midterm 1, go to Seibel 1404, and we'll sort you out there. Latecomers will be sent to the overflow room.
Points and stapling instructions have been added to Homework Assignment 3. Note that the problems were reordered to facilitate grading.
10/7/05 HW 0 and 1 stats posted. Also a minor change to the solution to HW2-1.
10/3/05 The midterm will actually last 90 minutes. So that's 7pm - 8:30pm.
10/3/05 Midterm I will be on Tuesday, October 11th, 7pm - 9pm in Siebel 1109/1404. The midterm review will be on Saturday, October 8th, 2pm - 5pm? (we may not stick around that long) in 124 Burrill. Please use the main door of Burrill, as other doors will be locked. Expect a practice midterm to go up soonish. Sorta.
9/29/05 HW0 Q5 regrade: If you believe your Q5 was graded unfairly, please drop that problem off at one of our office hours for a regrading.
9/30/05 Turns out that that Wednesday is Yom Kippur. Moving the first midterm back to Tuesday. Sorry about this.
Conflict requests: Email Linus, including a reason, when you are not free after 3pm that Tuesday, and what occupies those time slots.
9/29/05 HW0 Q5 regrade: If you believe your Q5 was graded unfairly, please drop that problem off at one of our office hours for a regrading.
9/27/05 Exam link removed - information was wrong and redundant. The first midterm is going to be moved to Wednesday, 10/12. It will still be in the evening.
9/22/05 Homework Assignment 2 has been released.
9/12/05 If you printed out HW1 on the 8th or earlier, please check the online version again, which now includes stapling instructions. Note that the problems were also reordered slightly from the first version posted.
9/7/05 Homework Assignment 1 has been released.
9/6/05 The Solutions to Homework Assignment 0 have been released.
9/2/05 To facilitate grading, please staple together problems 1-2,3-4,5, and 6-7. By doing so, we hope to minimize turnaround time without shuffling papers between graders.
8/26/05 Homework Assignment 0 has been released.
8/22/05 Welcome!
