Michael W. Reene, Chief Strategy Officer for ChoicePoint (NYSE: CPS), is a distinguished entrepreneur, civic activist, private investor and consultant. ChoicePoint is the nation's leading provider of identification and credential verification services. Michael Reene earned his bachelor's degree in the Department of Computer Science, College of Engineering, at the University of Illinois in 1977 and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago.
With his dual training in business and technology, Michael began his career at Accenture (then Arthur Andersen) where he rose to Managing Partner before joining IBM in 1995. At IBM, he helped start IBM Global Services and advanced to Vice President and General Manager of the $6B Global Telecommunications Vertical organization. In 1999, he applied both his time and capital to Third Millennium Communications (3MC), where he served as Chairman and CEO. 3MC (now known as consulting firm Enterpulse) profitably spun off successful ventures valued at over $100 Million.
As an entrepreneur, Michael is active in early stage business
communities with direct and indirect investments in a host of
Atlanta-based companies. Collectively, he has started five
businesses, been a founding investor in two more, and an early
investor in over ten others. These businesses include
- Consumer Financial Network which still exists today as You-Decide, a comparative shopping service for insurance and other products.
- The sporting vertical of Firstwave Technologies (NASDAQ:
FSTW), formed into First Sport International which serves major
events such as Wimbledon, the US Open tennis, and various leading
international football, soccer and rugby leagues.
Michael has a strong civic and educational commitment in his
local and state community. His service includes:
- Starting the 3,000 member Technology Association of Georgia, which he chaired in 2000.
- Founder and board member of Tech High. Tech High, a charter math and science high school, is the highest performing high school in the Atlanta Public School system.
- Vice-Chairman of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce
- Trustee at Georgia State University
- Visiting Lecturer at Emory University.
- Board roles for the Boy Scouts, the Business and Technology Alliance, and the Georgia Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technologies.
- Advisory board roles at Hands on Atlanta and Atlanta Technology Ventures.
Michael has been recognized as one of the "Top Entrepreneurs in Atlanta." Michael Reene has published numerous white papers and articles and contributed to books including The Five Patterns of Extraordinary Careers. He is a frequent speaker on technology and career topics.
